Aaron Paolino

CAPT Aaron Paolino

Interim Director of the Nautical Science Department
Nautical Science Instructor

Captain Paolino, Interim Director of the Nautical Science Department, holds a Master of Science in Maritime Management from Maine Maritime Academy and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Providence College. Captain Paolino holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master up to 1600 gross tons, oceans license and has over 13 years experience in the maritime industry, including time on tall ships and ocean tugs. Captain Paolino teaches numerous courses in the Nautical Science Program, including Advanced Shiphandling and Towing, Meteorology, Naval Architecture and Stability, 200 ton exam preparation and Ocean Voyaging and Vessel Management.
George Barlow

CAPT George Barlow

Nautical Science Instructor

Captain Barlow teaches the Tankerman Person in Charge Course in the Applied Nautical Science program, and has been an active instructor in the Continuing Education Division of the Institute for over ten years. Captain Barlow holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master, Unlimited license and before retiring in 2005, had over 25 years experience in the maritime industry.

CAPT David Clement

Nautical Science Instructor

Captain Clement holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master, unlimited tonnage, oceans license and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transportation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Captain Clement has been teaching at Northeast Maritime Institute for three years in a part-time capacity. Captain Clement is also a Paramedic and Firefighter with the Somerset Fire Department.

CAPT John Christensen

Nautical Science Instructor

Captain John Christensen is a recently retired Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving for over 22 years in various positions. He is also a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s Marine Transportation program and holds a Master less than 1600 gross tons, Oceans and Second Mate Unlimited Oceans license. Captain Christensen has previously taught at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and has served onboard a number of U.S. Coast Guard Cutters as Commanding and Executive Officer. Captain Christensen brings his extensive maritime background to the program starting Fall 2022.

CAPT Morgan Dawicki

Nautical Science Instructor

Captain Morgan Dawicki holds a Master 100 Gross Tons. Near Coastal with Sail Endorsement. He has had more than 13 years of experience on the water, with emphasis on Tall Ship sailing, seamanship and systems engineering. He was the youngest licensed tall ship Captain in 2015. Captain Dawicki spent a year in Tabor Academy’s Nautical Science department as a teaching fellow from 2018 to 2019. Captain Dawicki joined the faculty of the Nautical Science program in 2022 and will be teaching Introduction to Nautical Science, Navigation Rules and Marine Engineering.

Michael Lynch

Captain Lynch teaches the Bridge Resource Management Course in the Applied Nautical Science program, and has been an active instructor in the Continuing Education Division of the Institute for over ten years. Captain Lynch holds an Associate in Applied Science in Nautical Science Technology from the Seafarers Harry Lundberg School of Seamanship and has over 23 years of sea experience as a Mate and Captain in the maritime industry. Captain Lynch holds a Master on vessels up to 1600 gross tons, oceans from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Commander (Ret) Daniel Owen

Nautical Science Instructor

Commander (Ret) Daniel Owen joins the faculty of the Nautical Science program starting Fall 2022. He holds a Bachelors Degree from James Madison University and two Master’s Degrees from Seattle University and the Naval War College in Newport, RI. Commander Owen spent over 19 years in the U.S. Coast Guard with numerous shipboard officer and leadership roles as well as serving as the Director of Training and Operations for the Pacific Northwest Fleet. Commander Owens brings a strong history of dedicated service and commitment and maritime and shipboard experience. He will be teaching the Marine Meteorology course.

Steve Baden

Steve Baden

Instructor

Dr. Baden holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Iowa in Early Medieval, Reformation and Modern Britain History. Dr. Baden teaches both the U.S. Government and U.S. History to 1877 courses in the Applied Nautical Science program. Dr. Baden has also taught at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Bristol Community College, and Bridgewater State University.
Nicole Charbonneau

Nicole Charbonneau

Instructor

Ms. Charbonneau currently teaches the Maritime Literature and Critical Writing courses in the Applied Nautical Science program. She holds a Master of Arts in Literature and a Master of Arts in Writing from Simmons College and completed her undergraduate degree in English Literature at Saint Michael’s College in Vermont.
George Crook

George Crook

Professor Crook has over 30 years of experience teaching Physics at both the College and Secondary School Level. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and currently teaches the Technical Physics Course in the Applied Nautical Science Program and is an adjunct faculty member at Bristol Community College in addition.
John DaLomba

John DaLomba

Instructor

Mr. Dalomba holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He currently teaches the Technical Math course in the Applied Nautical Science curriculum. He has taught at Wareham Cooperative Jr./Sr. High School and Fairhaven High School as well as provided mentoring and tutoring services for over seven years.
Michael DYer

Michael Dyer

Adjunct Faculty

Michael Dyer currently serves as the Curator of Maritime History at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, a position he has held for 9 years, previously serving as a Maritime Curator and Librarian there for 12 years. Mr. Dyer holds a Master of Arts in American Studies from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Arts in American History from York College of Pennsylvania. Mr. Dyer has published numerous books, book chapters, articles and publications on American Maritime History and has curated a number of exhibitions at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Mr. Dyer was a Lecturer at the University of Chile in Santiago in 2016.

Jillian Maiorano

Jillian Maiorano

Instructor

Ms. Maiorano holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, Science Education Option from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in addition to holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Ms. Maiorano currently teaches the Introduction to Ocean Science course in the Applied Nautical Science program. She has over 15 years of experience teaching general science in the public school system. She also received her Third Assistant Engineer license from the U.S. Coast Guard and has shipboard experience with Military Sealift Command.

Dr. Vincent Patton

Instructor

Dr. Vincent Patton served as the 8th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard from May 1998 until his retirement from more than 30 years of active service in November 2002. Vince received his Doctor of Education degree from The American University, a master’s degree in counseling psychology at Loyola University at Chicago, a B.S. in social work from Shaw College and a B.A. in communication from Pacific College. His extensive military education includes the Department of Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, U. S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, and the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy. Dr. Vincent Patton currently teaches our Leadership and Ethics course in the Applied Nautical Science curriculum.

Michael Roy

Instructor

Mr. Roy holds a Master of Arts degree in Teaching Math from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with minors in History and Education. Mr. Roy has over 30 years of experience in the public school domain as both an educator and administrator. Mr. Roy has taught numerous courses in the Applied Nautical Science Program, including Government, U.S. History I and II and Psychology.
